PolyYapp

About

Who makes PolyYapp

PolyYapp is an iPhone and iPad app for learning Dutch vocabulary with spaced repetition. It is built by A.I. Software, an independent software developer, and published on the App Store as PolyYapp - Learn Dutch. It is free, with no ads, and you can start without an account.

Why

Why it works this way

Vocabulary only, on purpose

Words are the part of a new language that only repetition fixes, and the part a course has the least time for. PolyYapp does that one job and says so: there are no grammar lessons and no speaking practice, so it sits next to a course or a teacher instead of pretending to replace them.

From your language, not through English

Many people learning Dutch in the Netherlands did not grow up with English. One setting in PolyYapp changes both the interface and the language Dutch meanings are shown in, so a learner studies Dutch straight from Spanish, French, Polish, Russian, Turkish or Ukrainian, as well as English.

Nothing to sign up for

The first launch creates an anonymous ID and shows one welcome screen, then a Start Lesson button. There is no level test, no goal to set and no account to make. Everything you need to learn works without signing in; Sign in with Apple is needed to create new words of your own, for the Profile screen and to delete your account, and it ties your progress to your Apple ID.
